Social and Planning evening 6th October

Social and Planning evening 6th October

Just shy of a week to go until the Social and Planning evening. This is a unique opportunity for YOU the club membership to directly affect the planning of next years planned events. A starting point has been drafted, but is totally open to suggestion, request, recommendation and ultimately constructive criticism.

The committee are extremely keen to know what the members want, suggest and think the club looks like moving forward. So, please come forward and have your say.

David Lewin

It is with sadness, and some very fond memories, that I share the news that David Lewin passed away last week.  Some people will remember David and Jenny who were members of the club for many years into the early 2000s. They competed in RTV events in their Series I truck cab called ‘Flo’.  David won the RTV league on many occasions (I think perhaps 6 times).  Although David later moved to a 90 for competitions, I remember them in Flo at the same events as Stephen Greenwood was challenging for wins his Series I. Those battles were close fought.

Many of you will remember David with fondness and smiles, in particular when Jenny tired of not seeing club friends during the Foot and Mouth outbreak in 2001 and they hosted a fabulous party at their home which included a quiz set by David which gave many of our club members the opportunity to show off their knowledge of Land Rover Parts and their numbers, much to the amusement of those of us who were watching on.

David and Jenny were married for 56 years, and had two children, Ben and Suzanne and our thoughts are with them.

David’s funeral will take place on 12th October at 12.45pm. I can share details for those who may wish to attend either in person, or via the online link.

Looking to the future 2027 is just round the bend

With the 2-Day CCV Team trial and our August Bank Holiday trials weekend done, we look forward to the last events of 2026. Dewdney’s RTV and CCV over the weekend on 19th and 20th September, the Day/Night trial in November and when onto the Christmas Cup in December.

We have planned a social evening at the Plough inn at Leigh (Near Hildenborough) so as many people as possible can have input into the 2027 calendar. Thank you, Debby, for arranging that. October 6th from 7pm, for anyone who is able and willing to attend and help to construct a desirable calendar.

Please excuse the picture for attention – my AI skills are not really up to the task.  It’s there to catch your attention.

Katy Morris

Some of our members will remember Katy Morris and Paul Fillery, who trialled with Southern a number of years ago.

News has reached us that Katy has recently passed away, having been ill for some while.

Our thoughts are with Paul as he navigates this difficult time.

Bill Gingell

It is with sadness that we report the recent death of Bill Gingell.

One of the things that made trialling at Earlye Farm such a joy was meeting Bill and his family who always took such an active interest in our events.

Bill’s funeral will take place on August 4th at 1.30pm at Frant Church.
